Our approach to massage of animals

Lisa understands that each massage session is different and your dog has his own unique needs.  When she comes into your home where your pet is most comfortable, she will spend time to connect with your dog to provide for their uniquely specific needs. We will discuss your dog's history to include previous injuries or surgeries, etc.., current concerns, sensitive areas, exercise routine and diet.

During the session, she will incorporate a variety of different holistic therapies including therapeutic, sports and geriatric massage, stretching, stimulating various Acupressure points, Reiki energy work and Essential Oils based on your dogs needs.

The length of the massage is decided by your dog but typically lasts about 45 minutes.  With each session, she will provide to you any findings, areas of concentrations and simple techniques that you can share with your canine friend.

Rates:
$50 for a massage session (typically 45 minutes)

Special 5 Pack Offer: Buy 5 massages for $225, that's a savings of $25!

These rates are for within the Boulder area; Additional $10 charge for out-of-area visits.  Multi-session punch card discounts are available for the same dog or multi-dog family.

If your canine friend is in doggie daycare, I can provide a mid-day massage with approval from the facility.

How often should my dog get a massage?
Depending on the goal of therapy, typically a professional massage once a week is effective for the first 6 weeks then monthly "maintenance" massages as needed.

Acupressure
What is Acupressure?
Acupressure is an ancient healing act developed over 5,000 years ago, using the fingers to gradually work key points on the body.  It is a form of physiotherapy that indulges in massage and stimulation of precise points on the body.  It helps to restore, replenish and maintain the natural harmony and balance needed in animal and human to support optimal health and well-being. Animals are highly attuned to acupressure
Lisa is certified in Traditional Chinese Medicine acupressure and studied Five Element Theory.  Lisa uses several TCM assessment methods, such as Association Point Assessment and the "Four Examination" to determine which acupressure points to work specific to the needs of your dog.

What is the difference between Acupressure and Acupuncture?
Acupuncture and Acupressure use the same pressure points and meridians, but acupuncture employs needles and acupressure uses gentle to firm finger pressure in a non-invasive way.  It is a great option for dogs that can not tolerate needles and is easily incorporated in massage.

What are the benefits of Acupressure?
  • Boost immune system for change of seasons, pre and post surgery, vaccinations, etc...
  • Alleviate anxiety, fear, depression, change in environment, behavioral issues, etc...
  • Release endorphins, natural pain killers, instrumental in calming and relieving pain
  • Strengthen muscles, tendons, joints and bones
  • Enhanced mental clarity and calmness
  • Release natural cortisone to reduce swelling and inflammation associated with injuries, arthritis, hip dysplasia, etc...
How often should my dog receive treatments?
"Maintenance sessions" will depend on the animal but will vary between once every one to four weeks for a health animal.  Acupressure is also used to relieve specific conditions both acute and chronic; the number of sessions will vary depending on health, age, lifestyle and genetics of the animal.

Reiki
What is Reiki?
Reiki, "universal life force energy", is used to promote healing and a sense of well being as a system of natural healing. Reiki helps maintain good health and balance; it's healing abilities are limitless, boundless and the results usually are an overall balanced state of health, happiness and inner harmony. I have trained under the lineage of Usui Mikao.

What are the benefits for animals and people?
Reiki's healing abilities are limitless, boundless and an overall balanced state, an inner harmony.
  • Behavioral issues such as nervousness or hyperactivity; help relax and reduce stress and anxiety
  • Emotional problems; help release and heal emotions
  • Ease pain or injury; accelerate healing process
  • Effective for those that do not like touch
  • Chakra balancing; clearing stagnation, open blocks that cause illness, fear and emotional rigidity
  • Bring peace and comfort to you and your pet during the time of transition; helps relax so they are not afraid and can prepare to let go

Aromatherapy
What is aromatherapy?
Aromatherapy is the art and science of using of pure essential oils extracted from plants for powerful healing and balancing qualities improving physical and emotional well-being.  Your dog chooses the oil that they need and the oil is applied either by them licking it, onto acupressure points or during the massage.

What are the benefits to my dog?
  • Arthritis/joint pain
  • Muscular aches: Powerful anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties
  • Sooth anxiety, depression, fear, etc... promoting calm and relaxation
  • Skin problems such as hot spots, irritation, wounds, burns, etc...
  • Stomach ailments including digestive, appetite, etc...
  • Stimulate the healing process

How quickly can I see a result?
Essential oils can work very quickly.  Their effects are often noticed within days of treatment and sometimes immediately after application.

Fact: How many pounds of plant parts does it take to make one pound of essential oil? 50 pounds of Eucalyptus leaves on twigs, 150 pounds of Lavender fresh flowering tops, 500 pounds of Rosemary fresh flowering tops and 2,000 pounds of Rose fresh petals.

Stella Earth LLC uses a local company, Frogworks Essential Oils exclusively.

I am not a veterinarian, nor do I have a background in animal medicine.  This is a complimentary therapy, not a replacement for medical care.
